The responsibilities to rebuild the Yawuru nation require Yawuru to have detailed information on our community, particularly our housing conditions and our social and economic status within the Broome region. In 2011, Yawuru commissioned the most comprehensive household survey ever undertaken in an Indigenous urban environment in Australia. The data collected has been assessed as a highly accurate census of the Indigenous population of Broome and therefore, has been drawn upon to enrich Yawuru’s housing and community development programs.
You can read an article about the results of the survey here.
Yawuru will continue to build on the baseline information about our community so that we are in an informed position to make strategic investment decisions and engage with governments, the Shire and third party developers about the future social and economic development of the Broome region.
