Peter Yu, Chief Executive Officer

Peter is a Yawuru Man from Broome with over 35 years’ experience in Indigenous development and advocacy in the Kimberley and at the state, national and international level.

He has been an advocate for the social, cultural and economic advancement and wellbeing of Aboriginal communities and has been instrumental in the development of community-based regional organisations. Peter was Executive Director of the Kimberley Land Council during the 1990s and had a national leadership role negotiating the Australian nation’s response to the High Court’s 1992 Mabo decision.

He was a key negotiator on behalf of the Yawuru Native Title Holders with the WA State Government and Shire of Broome in the 2010 Yawuru native title agreement. He is an Australian National University Council Member, Deputy Chair AFL Aboriginal Advisory Committee, Deputy Chair Broome Futures Ltd and Director of the North Australian Indigenous Land and Sea Management Alliance Ltd (NAILSMA).

Susan Bergersen, NBY Chief Operating Officer

Susan is an experienced corporate executive with a strong track record in successfully leading new strategic and business improvement initiatives, Susan is well placed to lead NBY in commercial start-ups and pioneering in new markets.

She has experience in state, national and international roles in Perth, Sydney and Japan within both commercial and not-for-profit sectors, having worked in financial management, board reporting, administration, marketing and business development, business improvement, strategy development and implementation. Susan has held a range of directorship including 5 years as Chairman of the Ear Science Institute of Australia Board. She is currently a member of the Broome Chamber of Commerce and Industry Board and Member of the Broome Shire Economic Development Advisory Committee.
